Members of the Siuslaw Chapter (including 6 new volunteers from the Coast Guard) along with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) swept a section of beach from Siltcoos to Takenhitch, cleaning debris before the beaches are closed to vehicle travel for Snow Plover nesting season, which starts on March 15th.
This rapid response cleanup was necessary due to the large amount of debris that has accumulated in recent months from big storm surges and high winds.
In just a couple hours, the crew pulled out enough debris to stuff a dumpster. Huge thanks to all those who pitched in to help keep our beaches clean and habitat healthy for all those who call Oregon home, birds and humans alike!
Stay tuned for future rapid response cleanups and other ways to pitch in and protect what you love!
