Snowy Plover Presentation - October 19th

Join us on Wednesday, October 19th @ 6:30pm for a presentation by Dan Elbert from US Department of Fish and Wildlife on the Western Snowy Plover.

Shorebirds have captured our imagination for thousands of years.  This presentation explores our cultural and natural relationships with one particular shorebird, emblematic of the Oregon coast, the snowy plover.  Discover the plight of the plover and the efforts that have been invested for more than 20 years to stabilize the population and recover this marvelous little bird.

 

• Worked for USFWS as a Fish and Wildlife Biologist in the Ecological Services Program since 2010.  Began at the East Lansing Field Office, in Michigan working on the federally endangered Kirtland’s warbler recovery program. Has been at the Newport Field Office for the past 3 years coordinating snowy plover recovery efforts for Oregon and Washington.  
• Prior to the working for USFWS, Dan served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco. 
• M.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, research focused on grassland bird behavior and habitat selection.
• BA in Biology from Colgate University.
