A big thank you goes out to all who came and volunteered their Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend cleaning up the beach at South Jetty to Siltcoos. Volunteers crammed into 3 trucks and followed the park ranger out onto the beach at South Jetty and trekked south in response to the debris that has been seen piling up on the beach recently.
The cleanup was scheduled due to Ranger Trisha Wymore's request for help in this specific area. Wymore said most of the debris seen was small plastics, but it had been coming in large numbers with the westerlies and had been seen floating in the tide. Much of what was found was small plastics, but there were a number of large pieces of debris like styrofoam and plastic pallets. Two trucks and a trailer pulled behind a jeep were filled.
It was the perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon. We couldn't have asked for better weather or company. Come back for updates on this and notifications of future beach cleanup opportunities.
